2020 Uganda Medical Mission
(Pakwach District)
In 2020, the Indo-Africa Charitable Society carried out a dedicated medical mission to the Pakwach District in northern Uganda, focusing on accessible eye and oral healthcare services. The mission was designed to address preventable vision impairment and untreated dental conditions in rural and underserved communities. A team of volunteer medical professionals, local healthcare workers, and community leaders collaborated to organize outreach clinics that were accessible to families from surrounding villages.

Bringing Sight & Smiles
to Pakwach
In 2020, the Indo-Africa Charitable Society expanded its outreach in the Pakwach District of Uganda with a focused medical mission dedicated to eye and oral health care. Access to specialized vision and dental services remains limited in many rural regions, and our team worked alongside local healthcare providers to bridge that gap. Hundreds of community members — including children, elders, and families — received comprehensive eye screenings, vision assessments, and treatment for infections and preventable conditions. Prescription eyeglasses were distributed to patients who had lived for years with impaired vision, restoring not only sight but independence, productivity, and confidence in daily life.
Alongside eye care services, the mission delivered essential oral health screenings, dental hygiene education, extractions for severe decay, and preventative treatments. Many patients had endured chronic pain due to untreated cavities and gum disease, and immediate care provided both relief and long-term health guidance. Beyond treatment, the team emphasized education — teaching proper brushing techniques, preventative eye protection, and ongoing care practices to ensure lasting impact. The 2020 Pakwach medical mission strengthened community trust, improved quality of life, and reinforced our commitment to delivering sustainable healthcare support to underserved regions.
During the mission, over 600 patients were served across multiple clinic days, with approximately 350 individuals receiving vision screenings and more than 200 pairs of prescription glasses distributed. The dental team conducted over 300 oral health consultations and performed nearly 150 extractions for severe decay and infection-related pain.
Educational sessions reached an estimated 500 community members, equipping families with practical preventative care knowledge. Follow-up coordination with local health workers helped establish referral pathways for complex cases requiring advanced treatment.
Overall, the mission achieved a measurable reduction in untreated infections and preventable vision challenges within the immediate service area, marking a significant step forward in improving quality of life in Pakwach District.
